For this edition of La Cita de los Amigos, we are delighted to welcome Michael Lavocah, one of the most respected English-language writers and researchers on Argentine tango music. Michael is the author of the acclaimed Tango Stories series and Anibal Troilo: The Life and Music of El Bandoneón Mayor de Buenos Aires, works that have helped dancers, DJs and music lovers around the world gain a deeper understanding of tango’s rich musical heritage. For La Cita de los Amigos, we invited him to explore a very special subject: the Golden Age of Tango through the life and career of the singer Alberto Podestá.

For many of us, Alberto Podestá was more than a legendary voice preserved on recordings. He was a living connection to the Golden Age itself. Many tango enthusiasts still remember meeting him at festivals around the world or in Buenos Aires not so many years ago, making him one of the last direct links to that remarkable era.
Through Podestá’s story, Michael will take us on a journey into the musical, social and cultural world of tango’s Golden Age, helping us better understand the period that continues to inspire dancers, DJs and tango lovers today. Known for his ability to make complex musical and historical topics accessible to everyone, Michael combines rigorous research with a genuine passion for the music.
